LOCATION/SETTING: This property lies in the foothills of the La Plata Mountain Range. You will find the property conveniently located off a paved country road five miles from Mancos, Colorado.  It sets on 3 acres of pine, juniper and gambel’s oak trees. At an elevation of 7820 feet the summer evenings are generally cool and daytime temperatures are mild. The mesa top of Mesa Verde NP marks the horizon of the evening sunsets. A 30 minute drive gets you to historic downtown Durango. This proximity offers scenic beauty and too many outdoor activities and attractions to list. Take some time to relax on the deck and enjoy the resident birds, deer and maybe even a sighting of fox, bobcat or coyote.

MAIN CABIN:

The cozy main cabin is a two-bedroom that sleeps four comfortably.  The master bedroom has a  queen-sized bed and the second bedroom has twin beds.  Additional sleeping accommodations can be set up if needed.

The vaulted exposed beam ceiling with clear-story windows fill the open living room and kitchen with natural sunlight.  Feel the ambiance and glowing warmth of the wood stove during the cool evenings of spring, summer or fall.  In the winter chuck another log on the fire and the cabin stays warm.  The owners are happy to help you learn to adjust the wood stove heat so you’ll be comfortable.

Watch the flat screen television, enjoy movies or listen to music with the cabin’s new digital surround-sound system.  The kids seem to always find where the games and puzzles are stowed.

The kitchen is fully supplied with what you will need to cook. Being so close to nature will stimulate your appetite so just bring the food.  There’s a washer and dryer.  Linens are provided. Recent upgrades are uniquely handcrafted throughout the cabin. You’ll find the cabin cozy, clean and beautiful.

Relax on the covered porch where you can view deer, birds and other wildlife or watch the sunset over Point Lookout of Mesa Verde National Park in the distance.  To the south you see Menefee Ridge.   The clean uncluttered pine log design lets you make the space your own.  Quiet and peaceful relaxation or adventure if you seek it awaits you at La Plata Mountains Cabin.

BUNKHOUSE CABIN: This little cabin is perfect for a couple or small close knit family traveling on a budget. It was originally a one room log structure build in 1989 for the owners of the main cabin for sleeping quarters for grand kids and other visitors. In 2015 I refinished it inside and out and added a bathroom, kitchenette and covered deck. It is uniquely handcrafted, comfortable, cozy and cute as a bug’s ear.

Although, it is close to the main cabin, the separate parking, entry, deck and grill are positioned in an effort to achieve privacy even when the main cabin is occupied. The main room has a full sized bed with new mattress, twin bunk beds and a living area. The kitchenette has granite counter top with drop in cook-top and compact oven. Every bit of space is utilized to provide the well equipped cooking utensils and food storage for those who enjoy good home cooked meals. The patio table and chairs on the outside deck offer a great place to dine and relax but if you prefer dining inside a drop leaf table and folding chairs can seat 4. The bathroom (toilet and shower) is new and well appointed.
